Devotionals....positive attitude and more

Familia!

How goes it?! thanks for the updates!

Sooo two more weeks. Wow! blows my mind. I only have two more times to write to you guys in this laundry room!

So basically, i'm starting to feel like you guys live in utah know with all these trips. So nuts. I guess any excuse to get out of Arizona summers right? Utah weather has been prime. Playing soccer and beach volleyball every day. kickin it in the sun.

Mom that is a great qoute. Pres. Monson said that (roughly qouted, its from a Talk by Elder Oaks titled "unselfish service" but i don't have on me) "You cannot really love the Lord until you serve him, by serving others". Serving others is the best. Seriously. We HAVE to serve. Charity is essential. Like it says in the new testament you can have faith and hope but they are nothing if you don't have charity.

And dad! I love that qoute too. Spencer W. Kimball said that "any excuse no matter how valid, ALWAYS weakens the character". We heard that in a devotional two weeks ago and i've been trying to work on that. No complaining, ha i'm sure its going to be a struggle with all the culture shocks and language barriers when i get to Colombia. BTW, i checked with the travel office, and they said i wont know about my passport until about five days before my departure date. I'm hoping it all works out! if it does that means im leaving in 16 days! party!

Thats cool that Pres. Hacking digs music. They tried to ban ipods here at the MTC but that lasted for about a week and then they let us have them again.

Life at the MTC is going well. Teaching in spanish - alot. Three times a week we have english fast, so we don't speak any english. Its coming along, still am horrible at it, but I'm trying not to be prideful by not getting frustrated with the language. It's so great to know, that i'll i have to do with this language, and all we have to do in life is just try our best and the Lord will provide.

So for our devotional this week we had Elder Groberg speak (he's the guy that that movie "other side of heaven" is about). It was sweet, he talked alot about service. He told this story about these missionaries in the arizona indian resv. and how they walked like three miles to this village and they people didn't want to here from them, on the way out they saw a broken wire in the fence (for there cattle). and one of them being from wyoming said that "i've been taught to never walk by a broken wire". They were far down the road so they didn't think anyone was watching, but one of the people from the village invited them back and then after a little bit the entire village as baptized. So great. I know that people are always watching the missionaries and so that is why it is so important to try your best to follow Christ and serve others.

Love you all. Miss you all.

3 more weeks!

Familia,

So I'm going to start by asking some questions.

Feeding the homeless? Do you do this every monday now? At saint Vincient de paul? love that place.

How was wicked??

Harry Potter was greattt??

So another great week at the MTC. Still cannot believe how fast the time has been going by. Can't believe that I will be inColombia in like 3 weeks. HOPEFULLY! Sorry if this email is short by the way. this keyboard is crazy. Feel like im in the 90's.

We taught our first lesson in spanish this week, it actually didn't go to bad! Slowly but surely learning this language. I need to learn so much more though! It's going to be such a shock to just jump into Spanish 24/7. We started prepping by having an ayuno de ingles (fast of english) three times a week, where we don't speak any english. Hopefully by the time we leave we'll be doing it everday. (Speaking of which i think i'm going to go check with travel to see how my visa's comming, they probably wont tell me anything but its worth a try), It gets frustrating not being able to say what you want, but i feel so much more confident with my Spanish the next day. Our teachers are great and they really push us to speak the language. Which is the only way were really going to learn how to speak spanish.

BTW that's so cool about President hacking being great! I'm so excited to meet him. We couldn't meet them because of the swine flu epedemic. Which is pretty much over. We still can't shake hands but they let us play soccer and basketball now.

Tell Grandma and Grandpa thanks for the package! and Aunt Karen as well! Tell her that i shared some of the donuts with my district for Noche de Hogar (she'll know what that is). And that i'm starting to realize the wiseness of her advice to drink lots of water. This food is starting to get to me. BTW some teacher that had some colombian investiagators said that colombian food is basically the best food ever! So pumped! AHH i want to go right now. Oh! and tell her thanks for looking that flight plan up for me. thats sweet! I knew a kid that was going to bogota South, that let monday, and he said that they fly to atlanta, have a three over layover, then fly to bogota and get there at like 9 at night.

I can't belive it has been over 5 weeks. I hope its not going by too slow for you all! I love and miss you! Thanks for everything!

Elder Adams

A fast of English

Thats 'wicked' cool about the play. Mike mentioned that in a letter how he wrote to me. "we didn't win though... we never win those kind of things." HA i guess they do now. Its that celestial marriage they got goin on. I here its a way cool play. Let me know how it is! Maybe Josh can get into theater? I love plays.

Entonces (So in espanol), I had really good week here at the MTC. Every week we have what's called 'The Teaching Appointment', they have a role that the investigator plays, and we work towards it each week. This last monday we had ours. It was so awesome, we were teaching the Plan of Salvation and the Word of Wisdom. I'm always amazed at how the Gospel is so intertwined, if you work at it, and you have the spirit, the principle all flow nicely. The reason is because everything is centered around Christ. seriously. Everything. These people we had last week were a brother and sister that both serviced missions. It was such a great experience. We try to take all our practices seriously. And as  Elder naumu and I got into the lesson, we forgot that it was a mock. And we taught them with love and just tried to help them. When we brought up the atonement and read Alma 7:11-13, the spirit was so strong. The lesson was directed by the spirit. It made me and elder naumu so pumped! At the end Elder naumu was committing them to live the word of wisdom, I wanted to add another commitment that we hadn't talked about before and right then he says it in the same words that I was going to use. It was such a great moment. i needed it. Espiritu Santo es real. La iglesia es verdera.

My purpose as a missionary is to "invite others to come on to Christ...". One thing i've realized this week, which is huge, is that others don't just mean people that aren't members of the church. It means everyone. Everyone can come closer to Christ. So i need to invite everyone! it's great!

So family, will you read that scripture in Alma, that i mentioned earlier. And think about what Christ has done for YOU. And live in a way that you can draw closer to him.

So I talked to this one guy that i had talked to at the RC with a couple weeks ago. I sent him a book of mormon and he was wanted to see the missionaries. I called him this week and he told me how he'd been meeting with the missionaries everyday for the past week. So awesome. One bummer moment I had was when i called this one guy back that i had talked with for an 1/2 hour and he seemed really receptive. When i started talking to him, his line cut out. He could of hung up on me or his phone died. Hope it was the former. I just want him to hear more about the Gospel because i know it could help him sooo much. It can help everyone sooo much.

Soo on miercoles my district, we had un ayuno de ingles(a fast of english). So all day we don't speak english. not one word. It's hard, but so helpfull. Cause you have to find a way to talk around what you want to say, or you just don't say it and look it up in the dictionary. There defiantly is no subtitute for speaking the language. CANT BELIEVE IM GOING TO BE COMPLETELY SORROUNDED BY SPANISH IN A MONTH! I need to learn this language.

We are teaching in Spanish this week. for 35 minutes. SCARY. out of this world. I'll let you know how it goes.

BTW for the fourth of july they let us stay up and watch the fire works! they didn't end tell like 10:40 (lights out is at 10:30). Felt so rightously rebelious.

Youre in my prayers.

Love,

E. Adams

Twisted ankle!! All is well

Almost a month. This wednesday. Life is nuts. Every week really goes by
faster and faster.

Feel like i just wrote you yesterday, so I'm going to start by drawing ideas
from your letters. (Can't wait until I can write home about my near death
experiences(chiste! means joke in spanish) and Colombian adventures, rather
than how I spend 10 hours a day in class and eat the same thing everyday.
But don't worry i still love it!)

Phoenix Temple
That's so cool dad that you were able see those plans. What Temple is that
for? the Gila Valley one? I'm sure he'll be blessed for his labours and so
will the people of Arizona. Do you know when they are all supose to be
finished? That'd be awesome to come back to some new Temples.

I have no idea about my Visa, I called before I went in and they said they
had everything so its in there hands. They won't let me know how things are
going up until like the week before I leave. Oh well.

Ah the talk of the kids made me nastalgic (sp?). Love them, just envisioned
some future quality time kicking it pool side. It'll be great! Dad, your MJ
rant made me crack up. Loved it. Couldn't help but think of the Thriller
music video when i thought about his death. Ha!

Elder Jenkins.
So yeah, Elder Jenkin's companion, Elder Archibald's parents were here for
the mission president seminar, they are going to Calgary. They were set
apart by Elder Holland, so they said he talked about how great Colombia is
doing along with the President there (Speaking of which, Elder Naumu parents
sent him this article from a March 2005 Ensign about the Colombian saints,
im excited to read it. You can find them on LDS org if your interested.

So the charge on my card is from the ATM that i didnt take money out of? No
idea they charged me. I checked my  balance and i guess they charged me 2.50
for that? lame. Sorry bout that.

So tomorrow they are having a little devotional for the 4th of July. Its
kind of a little mystery. Me and Elder Naumu saw some random costumes and
she told us that it was for the 4th. And theres a rumor going around that
they might let us stay up a little late and watch the fireworks. If so, my
life rocks.

So me and Elder Naumu practiced teaching the Word of Wisdom today, it went
really well. We are really getting a handle on teaching in English. We make
a good team. But, I'm sure any of the pride we have will be smashed when we
teach a 25 minute lesson in spanish. Its going to be so humbling. Spanish is
coming, but I can't believe that I'll be going to Colombia in 5 weeks and
that's all i'll speak. So crazy.

So Brett left this week for Indonesia and Nick and Cristiano came in. I'm
kind of bummed i haven't seen Cristiano yet! I'm sure i will though.

Wish I had more to say. Expect some pictures this week!

OH! So I sprained my ankle on Tuesday playing soccer, crazy pop and
everything, it was pretty bad. But then I iced it and wore a brace and and
by Wednesday night i could walk on it with out any pain! So crazy. It isn't
a 100% but nothing to worry about. Defiantly not a normal thing. The Lord
was defiantly involved.

Love and miss you all (we can't say guys in the MTC. its to informal--i
guess)
